Ok, I’ve been gone for awhile…as you know Obama has won the Democratic nomination but everyone is still acting as if it is still going on.  So I’m waiting for the real contest…defeating McCain.  There is a story, however, that has caused me to come back here and post.  My wife just told me that a friend told her of this story.  That a school teacher did a 30 second magic trick in front of class and was fired for “wizardry.”  I thought there is no way that happened.  Well I was wrong.  Here’s a local article on the story.  Here’s some news reports:

The comment section in the local story has people leaving names, phone numbers, and email addresses to reach the school system and tell them how ridiculous this is. Have fun.

Rush Limbaugh on his radio show yesterday declared trees give off more carbon dioxide than cars.  He mentioned that President Reagan declared the same thing and was ridiculed for it.  Why Rush Limbaugh didn’t take that as a sign to look up why President Reagan was ridiculed for it I don’t know.  Oh…actually yes I do.  He’s an idiot who will say anything to try and prove his point even if it’s wrong.  Apparently Rush Limbaugh doesn’t know what photosynthesis is.  Trees absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen which keeps us alive.

Rush Limbaugh went on to say that he uses common sense over science to determine that global warming isn’t caused by human activity and isn’t a threat to us.  He believes that it’s common sense that Earth is God’s creation and therefore can’t be destroyed by men.  He called Christians who believe that we should be good stewards of the earth evangelical marxists.  Can anyone be more ignorant or wrong than Rush Limbaugh and the people that choose to believe him?

AP has the story.  Apparently the Clinton’s released their 2000 through 2006 tax returns revealing an income during that time of over $100 million.  So apparently Hillary can self finance her campaign easily and $5 million is just a drop in the bucket to her.  The disturbing part is that she refuses to release her 2007 tax return which makes me wonder what she is hiding in her 2007 return.  Obviously the 2000 through 2006 release is a smoke screen to allow her to say she released them and it was done in April when everyone should have filed their return.  She has, however, requested an extension so she doesn’t have to file her 2007 returns and release them to the public.  Excerpt from the AP article:

The campaign released tax returns from 2000 through 2006 and gave highlights from their 2007 return. The Clintons have asked for an extension for filing their 2007 tax returns, citing the dissolution of a blind trust last year.

This means Hillary will be able to hide her and Bill’s 2007 tax returns well past the April 15th filing deadline and well past the next few primaries.  Sign the petition and demand that Hillary file and release her and Bill’s 2007 tax returns.

Cheerios by General Mills nutrition facts misleading

I was shopping around today for a nutritious cereal.  Something low in calories without a lot of fat and sugar.  After comparing several cereals including Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Special K, Pops, Cheerios, Total, and Honey Nut Cheerios I noticed that the Cheerios brand by General Mills was the only cereal from the ones I looked at that said its serving size is 28g.  All the other types of cereals I looked at had their serving size as 31g.  That means Cheerios nutritional facts will always be artificially lower than their competitors and I have no doubt that General Mills is aware of this.

Comparing the nutritional facts of Cheerios with their competitors is like comparing apples to oranges.  They’re not the same.  To make the comparison from apples to apples you’d have to divide every number in the Cheerios nutritional facts by 28 to get the number per gram (such as number of calories per gram) and then multiply all the results by 31 to find out that number per 31g.  General Mills is obviously hoping you won’t go through all the trouble, or you won’t notice the gram difference, and compare their orange to all the other apples and be fooled by the numbers.  I still don’t know how many calories there are per 31g of Cheerios but I do know that number for Special K, Total, etc. because it is on their boxes.

This is a very dishonest practice by General Mills and I’m recommending that no one purchase a General Mills cereal until they fix this discrepancy and make their serving sizes 31g just like their competitors do.

UPDATE: Now we know Hillary and Bill made $109 million from 2000 to 2006 so why won’t she pay her bills? Why won’t she pay what she owes to middle class families that are struggling to keep their small businesses alive? If she is driving these small businesses out of business due to her unwillingness to pay her campaign bills what will she do as president to the little gals and guys?

Memo authorizing Americans to torture POWs released

I’m so proud of our government and the Bush administration today <sarcasm>.  More evidence of our willingness to torture people and act like those we’ve fought against for decades.  ABC News has the story.  Once Republican’s believed as Reagan did; that we are a “shining city upon a hill” that leads the world by example.  Meanwhile Republicans spout their respect for Reagan while disrespecting his vision of America.  How can we be a shining city on a hill when in the “suburbs” we’re torturing people.  This is why we need change.  This is why, no matter who wins the Democratic Party nomination we must show up and vote for that person in November.  I believe Obama will be that person but if someone else is that person, whether it’s Hillary or the convention chooses someone else, we need to support that candidate.  The Republican experiment, one that I originally supported in the mid ’90s, must end.

Watch Hillary lie about NAFTA

In the continuing saga of Hillary’s lies about her Bosnia trip, her so called work in Ireland, and her past stand on NAFTA, we get to see her in this video supporting NAFTA when Bill was president and then saying that she never supported NAFTA.  These lies are just becoming old news…we now expect that if she says something she’s lying.  How sad.

The fat lady sang but Hillary’s gone deaf

The LA Times reports another senator, Patrick Leahy, urging Clinton to be reasonable and realize at this point she can’t overtake Obama in delegates.  Maybe Hillary failed math in school.  Excerpt:

In speaking out on behalf of Obama, Leahy — and to a lesser extent Sen. Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut [...and Gov. Richardson and many more] – gave voice to a sentiment that many Democrats have been whispering with increased urgency over the last several days: a fear that the prolonged battle for the nomination — which once seemed to energize the party — may have begun to do more harm than good.

McCain has been making mistakes, Leahy said Friday in a written statement, but is “getting a free ride on those gaffes, because the Democratic candidates have to focus not on him but on each other.”

“Sen. Clinton has every right, but not a very good reason, to remain a candidate for as long as she wants to,” he said. “As far as the delegate count and the interests of a Democratic victory in November go, there is not a very good reason for drawing this out.”

[...]

Whether it was the botched effort to reform healthcare; tough votes on taxes, trade and welfare; the president’s “triangulation” against fellow Democrats; or the Monica S. Lewinsky mess, the Clintons often made life uncomfortable for their party peers during eight years in the White House.

“There’s a lot of feeling among Democrats on the Hill that the Clintons did very little for the party. It was all about them,” said one Democratic lawmaker, an Obama supporter who did not want to be identified in order to preserve a working relationship with Clinton. “We lost seats in Congress, we lost governorships, we lost statehouses. . . . And the whole time defending [President Clinton] through the impeachment process, the entire Democratic agenda got shelved.”

Meanwhile CNN is reporting that Clinton, just like her husband, only cares about herself and is staying in the race and damaging Obama; our eventual nominee.  Excerpt:

Sen. Hillary Clinton on Saturday rejected calls by supporters of rival candidate Barack Obama to quit the Democratic presidential race.

[...]

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Thursday suggests that the bickering between Clinton and Obama could affect Democratic turnout in November.

[...]

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said Friday that he would like the fight wrapped up before the Denver convention, and said party leaders have had “extensive discussions” with the Clinton and Obama campaigns about cooling down their rhetoric.

“I don’t think the party is going to implode,” he said. But he added that personal attacks “demoralize the base” and that campaigns should focus on issues like the economy and Iraq.

Thanks Hillary.  Keep it up.  We’re all looking forward to four more years of Bush policies from President McCain.  Keep attacking Obama all the way to the convention when he becomes our nominee.  Even Rush Limbaugh supports that plan.  You should be proud.

McCain, the Candidate of Double Speak & Scandal

In the CBS News article ‘Keating Scandal Still Haunts McCain‘ we see not only that McCain was bought and sold in the early ’90s but that it’s occured since then as well.  The article talks about his scandalous past with Charles Keating Jr.  Excerpt:

In his early days as a freshman senator, McCain was known for accepting contributions from Charles Keating Jr., flying to the banker’s home in the Bahamas on company planes and taking up Keating’s cause with U.S. financial regulators as they investigated him.

The Keating Five was the derisive name given McCain and four Democratic senators, including then-Sen. John Glenn of Ohio, who were defendants in a congressional ethics investigation of their connections to Keating. McCain is the only one still in the Senate. They were accused of trying to intimidate regulators on behalf of Keating, a real estate developer in Arizona and owner of Lincoln Savings and Loan based in Irvine, Calif.

Keating and his associates raised $1.3 million combined for the campaigns and political causes of all five.

The article goes on to discuss how McCain claims to have learned his lesson, however, long after the scandal McCain was up to his old dirty tricks again.  Excerpt:

McCain has claimed the Keating scandal sensitized him even to the appearance of potential conflicts of interest. But in recent weeks, McCain has defended himself anew over another instance in which he intervened with federal regulators on behalf of a prominent campaign contributor - years ago but after the Keating rebuke. Again, McCain denies acting improperly.

McCain wrote two letters in late 1999 to the Federal Communications Commission on behalf of Florida-based Paxson Communications. He urged quick consideration of a proposal to buy a television station license in Pittsburgh, although he did not ask the FCC commissioners to approve the proposal. At the time, one FCC commissioner’s formal nomination was pending before McCain’s Senate committee, and the FCC chairman complained that McCain’s letters were improper.

McCain wrote the letters after receiving more than $20,000 in contributions from the company’s executives and lobbyists. Chief executive Lowell W. “Bud” Paxson also lent McCain his company’s jet at least four times during 1999 for campaign travel.

If you’ll recall it’s McCain’s lobbyist mistress, Vicki Iseman, who caused McCain to cheat on his second wife like he did on his first wife and convinced McCain to go back to his scandalous Keating ways.  If he’s willing to cheat on all his wives why wouldn’t he cheat on us, the American people?  If all it takes is a pretty face or a promise of money to break the law and use his political power in a corrupt manner why would we want a person like this in the White House?  The article goes on to talk about McCain’s legendary anger problem.

McCain conducted a poisonous newspaper interview nearly 20 years ago with his hometown Arizona Republic. Flashing his quick temper, he insulted, cursed and hung up on reporters questioning him about his ties to Keating.

Why would McCain help a man like Charles Keating Jr.?  For those who don’t remember Keating ran the Lincoln Savings & Loan and was misusing and stealing money from his bank.  We, the taxpayers, had to bail out the bank once it went under.  We were stuck paying $2.8 billion of our hard earned tax money to bail this bank out and all Charles Keating Jr. got was a slap on the wrist while he continued to live a wealthy and luxurious life.  Thanks John McCain for screwing us, the American people, and helping rich criminals like Keating out.  Thanks Arizona for keeping him in the Senate.  Why would people continue to vote for McCain?  Because he was a POW?  The article goes on to say:

Keating sought a quid pro quo from the five [McCain & 4 other politicians]. He wanted government regulators, who were investigating Lincoln, off his back. And he demanded reversal of a new rule limiting an S&L’s direct investment in risky ventures to 10 percent of assets.

The banker’s attitude was summed up the day a reporter asked whether his political donations to the senators encouraged their intervention.

“I want to say in the most forceful way I can, I certainly hope so,” Keating replied.

But McCain had an additional image problem beyond the intervention and his acceptance of Keating’s cash. The two former Navy pilots had become good friends…Keating had flown McCain and his family on several occasions to his home in the Bahamas and other locations.

When his company tried to take tax deductions for the trips, the IRS raised questions. McCain, who said he mistakenly thought his wife had reimbursed the cost [sure - mistakenly], paid back more than $13,000 - years after the trips and after the senator knew of Keating’s problems with the government.

This pretty much sums up Senator McCain.  A corrupt and angry politician who has successfully reinvented himself as the good guy despite all his double talk.  As the campaign goes on we’ll discuss here other scandals McCain has been involved in.  John McCain is not the right person for the White House.  He is George W. Bush with an anger management problem which makes him dangerous.  Despite Hillary’s insistance that she’d vote for John McCain for president over Senator Obama I have to say I’d even vote for Hillary before I’d cast a vote for John McCain…and I used to be a Republican.

MSNBC reported on a poll two days ago that showed Hillary’s negative attacks having an affect - on her.  The article said:

As expected, one of the two major Democratic candidates saw a downturn in the latest NBC/WSJ poll, but it’s not the candidate that you think. Hillary Clinton is sport
