The fat lady sang but Hillary’s gone deaf

The LA Times reports another senator, Patrick Leahy, urging Clinton to be reasonable and realize at this point she can’t overtake Obama in delegates.  Maybe Hillary failed math in school.  Excerpt:

In speaking out on behalf of Obama, Leahy — and to a lesser extent Sen. Christopher J. Dodd of Connecticut [...and Gov. Richardson and many more] – gave voice to a sentiment that many Democrats have been whispering with increased urgency over the last several days: a fear that the prolonged battle for the nomination — which once seemed to energize the party — may have begun to do more harm than good.

McCain has been making mistakes, Leahy said Friday in a written statement, but is “getting a free ride on those gaffes, because the Democratic candidates have to focus not on him but on each other.”

“Sen. Clinton has every right, but not a very good reason, to remain a candidate for as long as she wants to,” he said. “As far as the delegate count and the interests of a Democratic victory in November go, there is not a very good reason for drawing this out.”

[...]

Whether it was the botched effort to reform healthcare; tough votes on taxes, trade and welfare; the president’s “triangulation” against fellow Democrats; or the Monica S. Lewinsky mess, the Clintons often made life uncomfortable for their party peers during eight years in the White House.

“There’s a lot of feeling among Democrats on the Hill that the Clintons did very little for the party. It was all about them,” said one Democratic lawmaker, an Obama supporter who did not want to be identified in order to preserve a working relationship with Clinton. “We lost seats in Congress, we lost governorships, we lost statehouses. . . . And the whole time defending [President Clinton] through the impeachment process, the entire Democratic agenda got shelved.”

Meanwhile CNN is reporting that Clinton, just like her husband, only cares about herself and is staying in the race and damaging Obama; our eventual nominee.  Excerpt:

Sen. Hillary Clinton on Saturday rejected calls by supporters of rival candidate Barack Obama to quit the Democratic presidential race.

[...]

A CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Thursday suggests that the bickering between Clinton and Obama could affect Democratic turnout in November.

[...]

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean said Friday that he would like the fight wrapped up before the Denver convention, and said party leaders have had “extensive discussions” with the Clinton and Obama campaigns about cooling down their rhetoric.

“I don’t think the party is going to implode,” he said. But he added that personal attacks “demoralize the base” and that campaigns should focus on issues like the economy and Iraq.

Thanks Hillary.  Keep it up.  We’re all looking forward to four more years of Bush policies from President McCain.  Keep attacking Obama all the way to the convention when he becomes our nominee.  Even Rush Limbaugh supports that plan.  You should be proud.

And I am a constitutional lawyer and strongly believe in free speech, but as a culture, we really have to do some soul-searching to think about what kind of toxic information are we feeding our kids,”

  3. Go to the finish line! If Obama didn’t quit behind Wright, you surely should not leave the race. You are the only option from the Audacity of Obama.

  4. Damnit hillary, just quit. Seeing pictures of the people picketing for you in washington said enough. They are nothing like anyone I would want to be a part of, they all are overweight and obviously easily swayed to fight for something… Just end this worthless selfish tyrade of bull**** you are worthless to this country where you are, NY state (average income 40k ) has the highest property taxes anywhere (average 3 bedroom 200k home taxes are 8500 a year wth school taxes), you aren’t doing a damn thing for us, and what will you do for this country? Just do us the favor of ending this now while we can still maintain our dignity as a country and move on. We are in the middle of a war, we don’t need a fight and more money wasted on your ego, we need peace and hope as a country. Please quit. Imagine if you were to win at this point? Who would support you? Who would stand behind you? Who would want to support someone who weasels thier way into a spot by being annoying? Is this how your foriegn policy is going to work out? I have this terrible picture of a female pres. bush breaking bread with the iraqi prime minister in washington while a war wages on….
